Disk-O Musical Guests
United Magnetics fastens a combination of guitar fury and delicate melodic sensibilities onto a roaring punk rock engine of relentless bass and drums. The result is a hard-hitting but tuneful attack that artfully dodges the genre's two customary defining characteristics -- indulgent over-aggression and bubblegum sticky-sweetness. Cutting their teeth in New York City venues of all shapes (but typically only one size), the band's energy was captured on tape by Don Fury on their brand new full-length CD entitled Reinventing The Fifth Wheel,co-released by the band and fledgling Arizona punk label Bad Stain Records. United Magnetics' online headquarters (unitedmagnetics.com) offers sound files, images, and lyrics, and is constantly updated with new information.
The Somnambulants are a Brooklyn-based outfit and the product of Joseph White's ambitions to bring melody and pop-song structure into a truly unique style of electronic music. The newly released album, Fabrication and Productivity, compiles 2 years of work by Joseph and several collaborators, including Lorraine Lelis (vocals, guitar) who continues to record and perform with the band. The album also marks the debut release for Clairaudience, a collective organization co-founded by Joseph White (clairaudience.com). Since the completion of the album, The Somnambulants have started performing live, with the help of newest member Eva Han on synth and vocals. Fabrication and Productivity is available online at clairecords.com. A review of the album is also available from FreeWilliamsburg.com.
